Mental and Physical Abuse of Institutionalized Mentally Retarded Research Paper
Mental and Physical Abuse of Institutionalized Mentally Retarded Children - Research Paper Example The method of data analysis used in the study is the deductive data analysis method. This method is appropriate considering that it is straight to the point and that it saves a lot of time during data analysis. With the adoption of the study, children will have a higher probability of getting treated appropriately and more effectively. Cases of physical and sexual abuse will be minimal and hence ensuring that they receive the rights that they are entitled. They will realize better health care as they will be given all the attention they need from their parents and the community at large. Thus justifying why mentally retarded institutions for children should be abolished. The time for not institutionalizing mentally retarded student has come. Mentally retarded children exposed to severe conditions that worsen the fact that they have disabilities. The harsh conditions they face at institutions make life for them unbearable. This arises from the fact that institutions are under budgeted , under staffed, poor services offered at the institutions, and that they are exposed to physical and sexual abuse (Lillis, 1997). New types of amenities must be built, based on the existing knowledge of the potential in developmental of the mentally retarded institutions. ... In this study, it is highlighted why institutionalizing of mentally retarded children should be dealt away with. Retarded children get exposed to harsh conditions that worsen their situation; they do not get the necessary attention that they require since managing many retarded children is quite a task (Tizard, 1994). The study was done in a number of mentally retarded children institutions with the aim of highlighting the challenges that they face at these institutions, their living conditions at the institutions and the various ways in which they can be helped. The study aims at proving why removing mentally retarded students from this institution will be a plus for the mentally retarded children (Thompson & Brown, 1997). This study will contribute important knowledge in essence that it will highlight the plights of the mentally retarded children and expose the challenges that they face at institutions. It will vividly show why removing mentally retarded children from the instituti ons has a higher probability of them getting treated well and appropriately. The study reveal that families are bound to show more care to their mentally retarded children as compared to institutions, considering that institutions deal with a lot of children and managing all of them to ensure that they have the best conditions is not an easy task. The experimental design used was the Group, Post-test Comparison, reason being that this design offers randomization. The post-test comparison using randomized subjects controls aimed at the key effects of history of the institutions, pre-testing, and maturation; and that the design can be stretched to comprise more than two institutions if essential. The sampling design used in this research is the clustered

College Should Provide the Tools Needed to Live in our World Essay
College Should Provide the Tools Needed to Live in our World Every year, hundreds of thousand of high school students go to a place of higher learning, be it a community college or a high standing world-renowned University. To get accepted to these places of higher learning, students must write essays about topics, have high grades in high school, have participated in extra curricular activities at school and other things as well. These students expect to get something from these great institutions, and that is why they try so hard to get into the very best universities. After attending a college or university, its graduates will be able to think and express themselves clearly, and learn not only a skill, but also about humanities which helps us in our everyday life. Pupils should walk away from a place of higher learning with the ability to think and express their thoughts. Newman lived in the nineteenth century, and was a well known Catholic priest in the British Isles who wrote an essay with the purpose of defending the value of an education. Newman states It is the education which gives a man clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them, and a force in urging them (49). An educated person should have the ability to think and reason about issues they will face in their lifetime, and decisions must be made regarding those issues. As Newman stated, the educated person will be able to look upon an issue, and arrive at a conclusion based upon their clear conscious view of the possi ble ramifications of the issue. The learned person honed their skill to think and reason clearly at the University that they attended. Newman points out the benefit of having schol... ...at graduated from that university will have learned how to think clearly, express themselves so they can succeed in life and their field of study, as well as have understanding of their lives and existence because they have studied the humanities. The students must not only think about getting accepted to the best universities, but also about why they want to go to such an institution. They must realize that there is more meaning to life than just making money and having a job, and that they will not learn that in a computer science course. Works Cited Newman, John Henry. British Sky Broadcasting Limited Essay
The share price calculated for BskyB using the residual income valuation model is à £ 3.72, which is à £ 5.64 below the market share price of around à £ 9.36. Reason for such depleted share price is that the profits reported by BskyB are not showing the impact of the equity capital and hence valuing the BskyB stock on the basis of reported profit for the period doesnââ¬â¢t show the true and fair view of BskyB share price. The price calculate by using the residual income valuation model is showing that how the cost of equity capital has affected the profits of BskyB and thus reporting a decreased value of the company and for the share price as well. Operating income predicted on the basis of the growth rate is showing a constant increase in the operating income in the future period. It is very important for BskyB to achieve a higher rate of growth in revenues which will ultimately gives rise to the need of investing in BskyBââ¬â¢s operating assets and thus both variables will end up with the increased value of company per share for the next period forecast. As the value of company is equal to the net present value of future cash flows discounted at appropriate rate of return to the investor. So the company should try focusing growth in its revenue rather than expending its business in the UK and around the globe. Return on net operating assets of BskyB is also decreasing in the next three years period. The decrease is miner but this is a sign that BskyB could be in more depressed financial conditions if attention is not paid to the growth rate of revenue. As in the above graph the return on net operating assets has been dropped from 49.00% to 48.99%. As the investors are much interested in the future prospects of the company rather than the historical performance of company. At first instance the investor will forecast the value of its investment and if the investment is generating some additional amount on their investment and if investment is not generating any additional return on it then they will consider the alternative company to invest. Following would be the basic assumptions: 1- The stock price can be predicted by using the residual income valuation model. 2- The relationship of current stock price and between the predicted share prices is significant. 3- Share piece of BskyB calculated using the residual income method divided by the current share price is more reliable and appropriate as compared to the book value of stock divided by the current value of stock. 4- The cost of capital will remain the same in the period under forecast which is 5.73%. 5- Terminal value will grow at the rate of industrial sector growth which is 4.00%. 6- Tax rate will not change. 7- Company will invest continuously in its operating assets. Investment recommendations: 1-As BskyB Vodafone are already partners, Vodafone has its customer base and the BskyB has the numerous type of entertainment and various license for the sports events. Recently the BskyB has announced that for the upcoming soccer league season the company has spent 299 million pound. If company sign a contract with Vodafone to show its direct broadcast to the Vodafone users than it will not only enhance the customer base of BskyB but will also promotes its sport broadcasting channels. (Thomson, 2014) Moreover, this could be more beneficial if the company also provides high speed broad band services to its Vodafone customer on a very cheap rate by introducing some attractive sport events covering packages. As the company has a strong customer base of 4.9 million. This will certainly be increased by taking over this investment opportunity. Because the competitor there is capturing the market share very rapidly (British Telecommunications) and due to BT BskyB has lost 1.5 billion pound of its value in November. So it is much vital for BskyB to maximize the revenue by investing in secure opportunities. (PLUNKETT, 2014) 2- ââ¬Å"British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc, known as BskyB, (BSYBY.PK,BSY.L), Friday said it agreed to invest $8 million in Luminari Capital, a venture capital fund focusing on technology and media startup companies that operate within the theme of innovation in video. This investment is expected to aid Sky to choose relevant startup companies to partner with in the futureâ⬠. (British Sky To Invest $8 Mln In Luminari Capital ââ¬â Quick Facts, 2013) As the broadcasting industry needs continuously development and up gradation of its broadcasting technology and thus it will need investment to achieve that level of competitive broadcasting to compete within the industry and make keep its distinctive position in the UKà broadcasting industry. Furthermore, UK film industry has also called for investment from BskyB of 20 million pound annually; this is major part of the annual investment in the UK film industry which signifies the position of BskyB in the UK broadcasting industry. (Macnab, 2014) As the strategy of BskyB has always remain customer focused and the company has always aimed high to serve its customer with its robust and highly innovative broadcasting technology, from a long period the company has reaped the fruits of its consumer focused strategies. So again the company has the opportunity to gain several film licenses by dominating is position to generate considerable cash flows in future. Already the company is the choice of around 40% of the British household and such continuous significant investment opportunities can turn the ship of BskyB around the globe. 3-As the company is in the industry in which it is required to maintain a research and development for its broadcasting equipment. Currently the company pays a large portion of its earning to the supplier for the payment of equipment which it has purchased time to time. If the company invests in such a operating facility which is well equipped and has the capacity to produce the all tangible broadcasting equipment and as it will also have its R&D department then off course it can innovate its products in house and frequently. This will also be considered as separate revenue generating business segment of BskyB which will ultimately increase the companyââ¬â¢s potential to increase its revenue in upcoming periods. BskyB can also sell those in house broadcasting equipment to other organizations operating under the umbrella of the broadcasting. More over a company like BskyB must also consider the investing in the other competitors as it has already invested in many other media and broadcasting companies. this will help the company in a manner, if in a certain year the company remains unable to show increase in its revenue it will be compensated by earning revenue from its short term or long term investments. Dust Tracks on a Road: An Autobiography by Zora Neale Hurston Between Cape jasmine bushes and chinaberry trees, Zora Neale Hurstonââ¬â¢s childhood, was a warm sweet memory illustrated in an extract of Dust Tracks on a Road: An Autobiography. In this excerpt, diction and point of view jump from the page to give the reader a lucid and realistic view of life ââ¬Å"down thereâ⬠in the farm, sheltered from society to protect the plentiful love, food and company of the Hurston home, compared to ââ¬Å"way up northâ⬠where ââ¬Å"rareâ⬠apples are abundant and gardenias are sold for a dollar, but where reality is a universal cry for equality and justice. Hurstonââ¬â¢s juxtaposition of these two environments compliments her parentsââ¬â¢ idealistic differences when it comes toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Imagery of flowers, blossoms, eggs and fruits are impregnated in the passage portraying growth and fertility in which Hurston flourishes as a young ââ¬Å"sassyâ⬠girl. The repetition of the word ââ¬Å"plentyâ⬠impl ements this picture of abundance and satisfaction; Mama indicates that there is ââ¬Å"plenty of space to play in, plenty of things to play with, and plenty of us to keep each other companyâ⬠indicating her purpose to keep the family united and protected under an umbrella of self-fulfillment. Mama served, in a way as Mother Nature: nurturing, teacher and even lawyer when needed. She says ââ¬Å"all good traits and leanings come from the motherââ¬â¢s sideâ⬠demonstrating the level of appreciation she has for her mother, and the recognition of goodness involved in her actions. Mother also insisted that her kids should ââ¬Å"jump at de sunâ⬠of possibilities; she believed that the outside could also be a world of opportunities. She lived in a world where eggs and oranges could be used as hand grenades against the world outside the ââ¬Å"Bermuda grass,â⬠but treasured the foreignism of an apple and its relative the beef. These two were brought by Papa, who was the only connection with the outside world inside the family. He was much more ââ¬Å"realisticâ⬠than Mama, but was feared by young Hurston; this is emphasized by the repetition of the word ââ¬Å"fearâ⬠and struggling imagery such as ââ¬Å"kill, battle, hung, blow meShow MoreRelatedThe Dust Tracks in Zora Neale Hurstons Life500 Words à |à 2 Pages The Dust Tracks in Zora Neale Hurstons Life Dust Tracks on a Road is an autobiography written by Zora Neale Hurston.
